VR Drive - new enhanced USB features

A new, very practical VR Drive software update is available just in time for Christmas.

We originally developed the USB control from VR drive to the camera to enable extended and more convenient bracketing of the camera.

But it doesn't just allow exposure control. We've delved into the depths of Nikon and Canon software to introduce some additional very useful USB features:

  • camera triggering via USB - it is now possible to trigger the images via USB 2.0 or 3.0 - so the shutter release cable is no longer needed. Another advantage for Canon cameras is that the images can be released much more quickly, which significantly reduces the overall recording time, especially for larger HDR bracketing series.
  • check white balance - this new feature reads the white balance setting in the camera software and alerts the photographer if it is set to "automatic". This prevents unnecessary post-processing of the images.
  • check memory card - checks whether there is enough space on the CF card to run a program, either when starting the program sequence (indicates an error) or during image capture (the VR Drive stops and indicates changing the memory card)
  • release control - checks whether the images have been triggered or not - if not, the VR Drive stops and displays an error

These USB functions allow great advantages for large bracketing series and for gigapixel projects in which a very large amount of data is produced and which usually take several hours.

They are available for all Nikon and Canon cameras that support VR Drive HDR mode. The quality, speed, time-lapse and HDR modes can be used for this.

In addition to these expanded USB options, we have also introduced some additional innovations:

  • improved speed mode - for faster rotations in zigzag sequences with non-stop movement of the x-motor - ideal for quickly recording multi-row panoramas
  • new repeat offset - allows you to move the start point of a program a few degrees clockwise or counterclockwise - ideal for time-lapse projects
  • new xml support - now also exports the camera database with the list of favorite cameras as a backup

... and - of course - we have added some brand new cameras in our database (e.g., Alpa 12 FPS, Nikon D800e, Nikon D600, Nikon D3200, Nikon D5200, Canon EOS 6D) as well as improved some small details and corrected errors.

This new VR Drive software is again a big step forward. Our VR Drive customers can download it for free from our “Club” website.
